THE ELEPHANT IN ME - THE JOURNEY THAT CONTINUES

My thesis, Bachelor of Culture and Arts at Novia University of Applied Science, consists of an installation of a sacred room with materials that are and resonates “home” for me. 156 small ceramic elephants are wandering around and on, always moving forward. The elephant is a wanderer, a matriarch, a survivor. The work deals with my relationship to my grandmother (Famo) who also was a visual artist and how she has always been my biggest inspiration even though I have never met her. I have painted some of the ceramic elephants with Famo's old pigments and weave her yarn into the work. She lives on in me in my artistic work.

In this work, I reflect on my path of becoming a visual artist. I do that by applying it to my life via the symbolism of elephants. The work tells about the importance of the elephant culturally, spiritually and the great significance for me personally.

This thesis is an homage to Famo. The work is about the artist and the elephant in me and about the journey that continues.
